Trama: Per potersi affermare come scultore Vincenzo ha lasciato la sua casa di Procida, sua moglie Maria e i suoi due figli da tre anni per stabilirsi a New York. I periodici contatti con la moglie adorata si interrompono dopo l'ultima visita a Natale. La sua famiglia è senza un soldo, unica risorsa economica i sandali artigianali che fabbrica Maria. Troppo poco per tirare avanti, Maria decide di trasferirsi con il resto della famiglia a New York. Quì scopre che Vincenzo è regolarmente sposato con Charlene, anch'ella madre e di nuovo incinta. Pur provando sentimenti controversi le due donne decidono di allearsi, ma finiscono nelle grinfie di Paul, direttore di televendite che tenta di sottrarre a Maria la sua creazione, i sandali artigianali. Tutti lottano per impedire a Paul di impossessarsene, fino alla vittoria. Vincenzo per tornare nelle grazie della sua famiglia abbandona il suo sogno artistico e accetta un lavoro in una delle tante agenzie americane di "Mariti in affitto".
Sinopsys: Hoping to make his name as a sculptor, Vincenzo leaves his home on the southern Italian island of Procida, as well as his wife Maria and their two children, and moves to New York. Left without a cent, the family's lone source of income are the hand-crafted sandals made by Maria. The woman decides to move to New York with the rest of the family. Here she discovers that Vincenzo has officially married another woman, Charlene, already a mother and once again pregnant. The two women form an alliance, but they wind up in the clutches of Paul, the director of a television sales operation who tries to rob Maria's idea. Everyone fights to keep Paul from getting away with the theft, and they eventually win. In order to win back the affection of his family, Vincenzo gives upon his dreams of artistic success and accepts a job at one of the many American branches of the firm "Husbands for Hire".
