Sinopsys: At dawn in the summer of 1944 at the village of Busseto, near Cremona, a group of five retreating German soldiers commanded by an officer capture a group of suspicious young people in the fields who, for various reasons, are not hiding from the retreating troops. The prisoners include Samuele, a Jewish violinist, together with his fiancée and his sister Anna, who has been traumatized by the deportation of her parents to a concentration camp. Two peasants who had sheltered them are also captive, as well as a priest who revealed the whereabouts of these people after being tortured by the soldiers and Battistino, a rebellious and courageous young partisan, captured by Cesar, a fascist sergeant fleeing with the Germans. The destinies of the remnants of a defeated army and a group of civilians are played out in the countryside of northern Italy.
