Trama: Nel 1921 l'Armata Rossa entra a Odessa, provocando l'esodo di tutti gli stranieri, compresa l'im- portante comunità greca. I profughi si insediano in Grecia, sull'estuario del grande fiume che si getta nel Mar Mediterraneo. Tra loro si trovano un ragazzo e una ragazza che si amano. Ma il padre del ragazzo, rimasto vedovo, vuole sposare la ragazza. I due giovani sono obbligati a fuggire a Salonicco. Il film segue i due giovani amanti attraverso il prisma degli sconvolgimenti della società greca degli anni '30. Ma per sfuggire alla miseria, la coppia, che ha avuto due bambini, deve separarsi. Il giovane parte per l'America. La donna rimasta sola comincia a errare insieme ai suoi due figli attraverso un paese in preda all'avanzata delle forze fasciste.Scoppia la seconda guerra mondiale. L'invasione del paese, la resistenza, le prigioni, il lutto per i suoi figli che muoiono combattendo l'uno contro l'altro nella guerra civile che strazia il paese fino al 1949.
Sinopsys: In 1921 the Red Army enters triump hantly the city of Odessa, causing the flight of all strangers, including the important Greek community that during the October Revolution had stood by the Russians. The story continues in Greece with the arrival and the settlement of the exiled on the estuary of the great river flowing into the Mediterranean Sea. Among the refugees there are a boy and a girl who fall in love. But his father, now a lonely man after the death of his wife, wants to have the girl and marry her. So the two young people flee towards the great city: Thessaloniki. The film follows the lovers' route, through the prism of the devastation in the society of the 30s.
