Trama: La narrazione ripercorre le vicende umane e giudiziarie legate alla morte di Federico Aldrovandi, avvenuta a Ferrara alle sei di mattina del 25 settembre 2005 durante un controllo di polizia. Da quella vicenda scaturì un'inchiesta giudiziaria, inizialmente destinata all'archiviazione, e un processo, che in primo grado il 6 luglio del 2009 si è concluso con la condanna a 3 anni e sei mesi di quattro agenti. La storia viene ricostruita attraverso testimonianze ufficiali e il racconto si sviluppa sotto la diretta consulenza degli avvocati di parte civile e dei familiari del ragazzo, che approvano e collaborano al progetto: la prima parte è dedicata ai fatti e ai misteri, la seconda al processo e a suoi numerosi colpi di scena, mentre il finale, partendo dagli interrogativi rimasti insoluti, tenterà una spiegazione verosimile degli avvenimenti. Il titolo scelto, È stato morto un ragazzo, fa riferimento alla vicenda di Gabriele Sandri, tifoso della Lazio ucciso in un autogrill da un proiettile vagante, partito dalla pistola di un poliziotto. La frase, tanto sgrammaticata quanto efficace, fu pronunciata da un collega del poliziotto, e rappresenta bene anche le ambiguità della tragedia di Federico, in bilico tra omicidio e casualità.
Sinopsys: The narration follows the human and judicial events related to Federico Aldrovandi's death, which occurred in Ferrara at 6 a.m. on 25th September 2005, as a result of a police patrol. After an initial rush to close the case, an investigation into the tragic event ensued followed by a trial of four police officers which resulted in the judgement of 1st instance to three and a half years in prison. The story is based on the official testimonies and was written under the direct supervision of the plaintiff's attorneys and Federico's family members, who approved and took an active part in the project. The first half of the book presents the events and their mysteries, the second half focuses on the trial and the many unexpected turns, whereas in the last part there is an attempt to give a possible explanation of the events, starting from the numerous questions that remained unanswered. The title that has been chosen for the work, "A boy has been dead", refers to the tragic death of Raffaele Sandri, a Lazio soccer fan who was killed while driving away from a highway café by a stray bullet fired from a service weapon. The sentence, which is as grammatically incorrect as it is powerful, was said by a colleague of the officer who allegedly fired the bullet. It expresses well the ambiguity of the tragedy of Federico's death, that lies somewhere between murder and accident.
