Trama: 1984. Centinaia di migliaia di africani di ventisei paesi diversi, costretti dalla carestia, abbandonano il loro paese per ritrovarsi tutti insieme in alcuni campi profughi del Sudan. Grazie all'iniziativa dello stato di Israele e degli Stati Uniti, una vasta azione (denominata operazione Mosè) è organizzata per portare in Israele migliaia di ebrei etiopi (i Falasha). Una madre cristiana spinge suo figlio a dichiararsi ebreo per salvarlo dalla carestia e dalla morte, mentre in realtà nessuno dei due è un discendente del popolo d'Israele. Il bambino arriva sano e salvo in Terra Santa. Dichiarato orfano, è adottato da una famiglia francese sefardita che vive a Tel-Aviv. Cresce con la paura che qualcuno scopra il suo segreto e le sue menzogne: né ebreo, né orfano, solo nero. Conoscerà l'amore, il giudaismo e la cultura occidentale ma anche il razzismo e la guerra nei territori occupati. Diventerà ebreo - israeliano - francese - tunisino... una vera torre di Babele. Non dimenticherà mai, però, la vera madre rimasta in Sudan e che segretamente e ostinatamente sogna di potere un giorno ritrovare...
Sinopsys: 1984. Famine forces hundreds of thousands of Africans to flee to refugee camps in the Sudan. Israel and the United States organise a massive operation (entitled Moses) to bring thousands of Ethiopian Jews (the Falasha) to Israel. A Christian mother urges her son to declare himself a Jew and be saved from famine and death, though neither of the two is a descendent of the People of Israel. The child arrives in the Holy Land, is declared an orphan and adopted by a French Sephardic family that lives in Tel-Aviv. He grows up in fear of having his secret and his lies discovered: not a Jew, not an orphan, but simply black. He knows love, Judaism and western culture, but also racism and war. He becomes Jewish - Israeli - French - Tunisian... a walking Tower of Babel. But he never forgets his mother, whom he left in Sudan, and whom he secretly, stubbornly dreams of seeing again...
