Trama: Una anziana coppia, Rico e Zaira, decidono di realizzare un loro vecchio sogno: recarsi in riva al mare. Scendono lungo il fiume Marecchia verso l'Adriatico, e durante il viaggio tornano stranamente indietro nel tempo con le loro memorie. Così Zaira ricorda di essere stata sedotta da un giovane violinista tzigano alla fiera del paese. Poi Rico e Zaira osservano una ragazza e un camionista fare l'amore tra i cespugli della riva del fiume e rivivono le loro emozioni del giorno delle nozze. Giunti in un campo di zingari Rico vede in un attempato suonatore di violino il seduttore di Zaira e vorrebbe vendicarsi; ma la moglie lo ferma, ricordandogli che anche lui ha i suoi peccatucci. Finalmente giungono al mare in un pomeriggio nebbioso, non vedono le onde ma le sentono attorno ai piedi e si fermano, accarezzandosi teneramente, aspettando che la nebbia si dissolva.
Sinopsys: An elderly couple, Rico and Zaira, decide to make their age-old dream come true: that of taking a trip to the seaside. Rico promised this wonderful experience to Zaira forty years before. As they travel down the river Marecchia in the direction of the sea (the Adriatic) they also travel back over their pasts, remembering the most significant events in their lives. Their memories are so vivid that they are moved deeply by them. Zaira remembers how a young gypsy violinist once seduced her during the local fair and is so overcome by this memory that she confesses this, the only sin of her life, to a priest they meet on the river bank. Then Rico and Zaira, who know well what it means to be young, watch a girl and a truck-driver make love among the bushes. This recalls the emotion of their first night of love. But when they arrive at a gypsy settlement Rico recognizes an elderly fiddler, the man who once seduced Zaira. His desire is to take out his revenge on the man, but his wife stops him, reminding him that he too has committed some sins during his life. At last they arrive on the sea shore on a misty afternoon. They can not see the waves but they can hear them at their feet. They embrace and caress one another tenderly waiting for the fog to rise.
