La trama

A tre giorni dal Natale, Giorgio (Antonio Catania), sua moglie Clara (Anna Bonaiuto) e la loro figlia Margherita (Cristiana Capotondi) sono stati invitati a passare le vacanze nel castello di Alberto (Diego Abatantuono), mentre Paolo (Fabio De Luigi), il marito di Margherita li raggiungerà in un secondo momento. Il castello è un piccolo gioiello tra le pendici innevate del Monte Rosa che Alberto ha acquistato di recente, dopo essere scampato a una malattia per cui tutti lo davano per spacciato. La vita, per lui, è diventata ora una nuova, meravigliosa avventura; pensa di lasciare a Giorgio, già suo vice, il comando dell'azienda. Giorgio è molto teso, sia per la promozione "amicale", che per l'imminente arrivo di Paolo. Margherita è al nono mese di gravidanza e ha deciso di partorire in acqua: manca ancora qualche settimana alla data prevista, ma ha comunque obbligato Paolo a ritirare una piscina portatile da usare in caso di necessità. Al castello c'è anche la figlia di Alberto, Benedetta (Laura Chiatti), anche lei incinta e amica di vecchia data di Margherita, anche se tra le due, che hanno fatto scelte di vita radicalmente diverse, il rapporto non è molto disteso. Il povero Paolo, che nemmeno il Natale riesce a rendere meno inopportuno, combina un disastro dopo l'altro, accanendosi, suo malgrado, proprio su Alberto e il suo castello: a causa di un malinteso, infatti, tutti credono che Alberto sia morto per colpa di Paolo. Clara si trova ad organizzare una veglia funebre che si trasforma, però, in una festa surreale, il cui esito è tutto da scoprire, tanto più che il bimbo di Margherita ha deciso di venire alla luce proprio nella notte più concitata e tempestosa. Non sarà facile, ma alla fine tutto andrà bene, perché è Natale e perché è giusto che sia così. E fuori la neve continua a cadere...

Three days before Christmas, Giorgio (Antonio Catania), his wife Clara (Anna Bonaiuto) and their daughter Margherita (Cristiana Capotondi) are invited to spend the holidays at the castle of Alberto (Diego Abatantuono), while Paolo (Fabio De Luigi), Margherita’s husband, will join them further on. The exquisite castle, perched on the snowy slopes of Mount Rosa, was purchased only recently by Alberto, following an illness that everybody thought would do him in. Viewing life as a new and marvellous adventure, he is thinking of leaving Giorgio, already his right-hand man, in control of his business. Giorgio’s nerves are a wreck, both on account of this "friendly" promotion and the fact that his son-in-law Paolo is on the way. Margherita is nine months pregnant and she has decided to deliver the baby in the water. The forecast date is still some weeks off, but she still makes Paolo bring a portable pool that can be used in an emergency. Also at the castle is Alberto’s daughter Benedetta (Laura Chiatti), who is pregnant as well. She and Margherita are old friends, though tension has accumulated due to their drastically different approaches to life. Poor Paolo, who fails to get anything right even at Christmastime, unwittingly focuses the disastrous effects of what he does on Alberto and the poor man’s castle, leading everyone to mistakenly believe that Alberto has died and that it is Paolo’s fault. Clara finds herself organising a wake that turns into a surreal party whose final outcome is anything but certain, seeing that Margherita’s baby has decided to come into the word on the most frantically tempestuous night imaginable. In the end, though, everything goes for the best, because that’s the way it should be on Christmas. And outside the snow keeps falling...
